Matthew Williamson To Create Handbags For Bulgari

matthew williamsonBulgari has designed ultra-pricey handbags for a while but they haven't had an official designer at the helm. Vogue UK reports that the Italian jewelry brand has tapped British fashion designer Matthew Williamson to design a handbag collection for spring/summer 2011. The capsule collection will be shown during Milan Fashion Week in September. Williamson is known for his exuberant sense of color which eventually led to his stint as creative director at Pucci. In a press release Bulgari's CEO Francesco Trapani commented: "We chose Matthew Williamson for the great sense of color and design he brings to his work which resonates with our brand's rich history".

Suri Cruise Has Her Own $850 Handbag

suri cruiseSuri Cruise is getting started early on her designer handbag collection, and (no surprise) so far she has the very same taste as her mother Katie Holmes. Suri was spotted carrying a tiny metallic Salvatore Ferragamo "Sophia" bag (not the bag shown here) recently as she was carried aboard a helicopter in Jamaica by dad Tom. Mom, bringing up the rear, was toting her own larger version of the same "Sophia" design. Color and all.

Yes she's a cutie, and no we don't know the whole story, but is it really necessary to give a little girl a purse worth almost a $1000 when everybody's traveling and in jeans and t-shirts? Maybe if she's going to the Oscars.

Louis Vuitton Raindrop Besace Trash Bag Purses, Handbags of the Day

There's not a lot to be said about this bag as looking at it pretty much says it all. Louis Vuitton is certainly taking a step into new territory with this Raindrop Besace design, departing from the usual classic and refined style to this edgy, trendy, and somewhat controversial design. Available in two colors (see the green version after the jump) I've heard they're made of leather but look very much like plastic trash bags with drawstring closure. Few details are available but obviously there's also goldtone hardware and a detachable leather shoulder strap (in case you want to carry it by hand like a real garbage bag) and I'm guessing there's no lining or interior pockets to speak of. Watch for them this spring for $1,996 each.

Marcel Soriano Shell Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Celestina Marcel Soriano Shell Clutch Handbag
For when you want something eye-catching and fantastic but not flashy, this Marcel Soriano Shell Clutch by Celestina is natural, earthy glamour at its best. Irridescent mother-of-pearl shell clutch with a goldtone brass frame and a bright lapis lazuli clasp closure on the top. It opens on a hinge and has a small wooden logo-embossed plague on the interior, and comes with a darling vanity mirror in a wooden frame. The fun thing about this clutch is that because it's made of naturally occurring shell no two will ever look the same. $875

Leathe Union Jack Clutch Alexander McQueen
Patent leather in a bright hue of royal blue meets with shiny silvertone hardware and a hardcore silver skull to blend pretty with tough in the Leather Union Jack Clutch by Alexander McQueen. This hardbox style clutch is paneled with a union jack design and has a matching royal blue leather lining on the interior. The push-fastening skull closure features transparent crystal embellishments and dark pink glass pearl eyes (although they look gray/black to me). No detachable handle, no interior pockets, just straightforward style in true clutch form. A great way to incorporate the current skull trend into your wardrobe. $1,350

Gucci 'Joy' Medium Boston Bag, Handbag of the Day

Gucci Joy Medium Boston Handbag
Whether intended to make a statement about global warming, or simply a whimsical dream of snowmen and elephants living together in harmony, this Joy Medium Boston Bag by Gucci is certainly fun. The color scheme is bright but still mostly neutral, and the white leather trim gives it a very spring-y vibe. And a very charitable vibe comes from the fact that 25% of the proceeds will go to UNICEF. Gold-tone hardware, D ring detail, double handles, and zip-top closure round out the features. $695

Lanvin Aumoniere Satin Pochette, Handbag of the Day

Lanvin Aumoniere Satin Pochette Handbag
Lanvin's Aumoniere Satin Pochette is inspired by vintage glamour and it shows. It's entirely black save the large fuschia poof placed slightly off-center near the top and a white logo label on the inside. The satin body closes with a draw-string and has a textured goldtone chain shoulder strap. One small interior pouch pocket rounds out the features on this very simple bag that oozes elegance and femininity. Perfect for any season and, thanks to its minimalist design, pretty much totally timeless (and totally cute). $750

40 Years of Fred Segal Feet

Fred Segal Feet Shoes
Fred Segal Feet will be celebrating its 40th year in business this year and the tiny LA boutique is as big now as ever, continuing to serve celebrities and the fashion elite as the go-to place for the latest and greatest in men's and women's shoes and accessories.

Located on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, every piece for sale in the 610 sq ft store is hand-picked by the husband and wife team that started it so many years ago, Stanley and Patti Silver. Credited with many 'firsts' including being among the first to bring European shoes to the West Coast, being the first to sell Mui Mui in Los Angeles, and being one of the earliest to fall in love with Uggs, the Silvers make time to travel to Milan and Paris every year (usually twice) and have a knack for scoping out the latest and greatest in fashion and design. Brand names include the likes of Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Christian Louboutin, and Giuseppe Zanotti and they have hundreds of offerings for both men and women. The Beatles, Desperate Housewives, and countless other celebrities are common in the store although the Silvers like their goods to be accessible to everyone, and so stock a variety of offerings starting as low as $60 and ranging well up into sky-high thousands. Congratulations on such a long and successful history, with no end in sight!

Marni Studded Leather Bag, Handbag of the Day

Marni Studded Leather Tote Handbag
Studs continue to pop up everywhere, and although the concept remains the same designers are getting creative with the details. The Marni Studded Leather Bag has large, flat studs (like finely shined thumbtacks) lined up in rows over gray leather. Instead of the expected "biker chic" vibe that would normally come from a combination of studs and leather this bag seems much more girly with an almost contemporary feel. A delicate black ribbon goes around the middle of this messenger style bag and acts as a fastener to keep it closed while the fold-over flap also has a zip closure. The interior is lined in brown twill. $865

Prada Foulard-Print Roll Bag, Handbag of the Day

A pretty, very busy, Prada in a cylindrical roll bag style. Silk twill (inside and out) with signature saffiano calfskin trim, this Foulard-Print Roll Bag is sure to catch the attention (and envy) of those around you. This bag will pair well with most anything as it already kinda clashes with itself. Hearts woven into the pattern make this bag perfect for this pre-Valentine's time of year. Or it would be a great gift on V-day too. It has double top handles, one interior zip pocket, and snap closure. $1195

Jimmy Choo Ina Nappa Leather Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Jimmy Choo Ina Nappa Leather Clutch Handbag
I have to admit, this Ina Nappa Leather Clutch by Jimmy Choo makes me laugh. Which is strange because I don't necessarily dislike it. I think it's the combination of such a bright, almost flourescent, shade of yellow and all that fringe. It's the kind of bag that I'd love to hate but would still actually consider carrying. Nappa leather with silver-tone star embellishments gives it a happy, slightly whimsical vibe. Detachable sand-suede shoulder strap, sand suede lining, zip-top closure, and a fairly prominent logo plaque make this bag fun and versatile. $795

Christian Louboutin Swarovski-Embellished Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Christian Louboutin Swarovski Clutch Handbag
The iridescent Strass Swarovski-embellished clutch by Christian Louboutin skillfully blends soft angles and a flexible, supple frame with the hard edges of finely cut crystals arranged in tightly packed rows. There's not a single visible surface, save the bright red lining, that isn't covered in beautiful Swarovski bling. Sure to catch the light, the attention, and the envy of every woman in the room. Zip-top closure, Louboutin's signature shoe-shaped zipper pull encrusted in crystals, and an internal pouch pocket round out this clutch. 10" x 4" x 1", $2,495

Gucci Techno Horsebit Flap Bag, Handbag of the Day

Gucci Techno Horsebit Handbag
Wow, this Techno Horsebit Flap Bag is so beautiful in the photo that I hope it's not a let-down in person! I'm sure it's not, as it is a Gucci after all. Smooth white leather meets shiny nickel hardware and lots of detailed stitching, insets, and panels going every which way. It has three handles, one regular woven and two detachable shoulder straps (one in woven leather and one in plain), plus a snap and flap closure and interior pockets (cotton linen lining) for your cell, pda, and other goodies. $2800

Valentino Small Glamorous Tote, Handbag of the Day

Valentino Small Glamorous Tote Handbag
Where tote bag versatility meets evening bag glamour, it's nothing other than a Valentino. The Small Glamorous Tote is covered in shiny black nappa leather and glimmering paillettes in sizes from small to large. Hand-embroidered flowers in bright, 3-dimensional pastels seem to jump off the design and Swarovski crystals and jet beads embellish and enhance. Totally fabulous. Features include a black satin lining, double leather handles and a detachable shoulder strap, magnetic top closure and one internal zip pocket. Available exclusively at Net-A-Porter for $2,795.
